Make smarter website decisions with data.
Hi, I’m Josh. I'm a web strategist using ๐ analytics, ๐งช testing, and โ๐ป copywriting to give visitors the highest chance to convert.
Too many websites are created using gut feelings and copied templates.
The best websites use research and analytics to make strategic decisions that lead to success.
That’s where I come in.
Here's how I do it…
Analyze website data to determine your best pages and funnels.
Stop guessing what’s working. Use website analytics to determine which pages are working and which ones need fixing.
Conduct user testing to identify points of doubt or confusion.
Gathering user feedback allows you to understand exactly why your website isn’t working, paving a clear path to improvement.
Draft wireframes and copywriting based directly on user insights.
Copywriting makes or breaks a website. User-focused information architecture delivers the message as clearly as possible.
Run A/B tests and personalization experiences to ensure success.
Iterative testing guarantees recurring success by validating ideas and reliably increasing conversion rates.
Develop holistic website strategies that work for the long term.
A cohesive vision allows websites to foster brand recognition, product comprehension, and customer loyalty.
Asking questions is always a good strategy.
I've worked in many roles related to managing and optimizing websites, from design to copywriting to development to optimization. This means that I can speak the language of any of these teams, rather than having to go back and forth to get the right answer.
Absolutely! Designing websites is one of my favorites things to do. While these days I tend to focus on web strategy and have had the opportunity to work with some tremendous designers, I've still got some design skills in my back pocket that I'm always ready to dust off.
While I certainly have my preference for analytics tools (which I'm happy to share), there are many ways to collect the data that is needed to make smart decisions. What matters most is looking at the important metrics – page views, clicks, conversion rates, etc.
Good copywriting starts with clarity. The most important thing for any website is to convey exactly what you're offering without any room for doubt. If visitors don't know what you do, no amount of cleverness or artistry is going to convince them to buy.
Even the best websites can't operate on their own. They have to be part of a connected ecosystem that drives the entire marketing funnel, from search clicks to website visits to remarketing ads to nurture emails to sales calls. And while I don't manage all of these disciplines myself, I've made a point to learn enough about each to be able to do some damage if I need to.
However, the one aspect of digital marketing that I love is writing emails. I view email campaigns as an essential aspect of website strategy. Newsletter signups are the perfect way to capture visitor's interest and nurture them into prospects for sales.
This is my favorite question. I'm always looking for great books to read. Here are the top three books that I recommend to anybody who wants to do great marketing:
- Very Good Copy by Eddie Shleyner
- Make It Punchy by Emma Straton
- Alchemy by Rory Sutherland
